Frequently Asked Questions - Union Plus Credit Cards
Q: Why should I carry a Union Plus Credit Card?
A: The Union Plus Credit Card has no annual fee, a great competitive rate (usually two or more points lower than the national average) and special money-saving balance transfer offers. These features offer significant savings when compared to other cards.
Q: Can anyone apply for a Union Plus Credit Card?
A: No. The money-saving Union Plus Credit Card is available only to union members. It's one of the many benefits of union membership.
Q: How do I apply for a Union Plus Credit Card?
A: Members of SEIU may apply online or call 1-800-522-4000.
Q: Am I guaranteed to receive a credit card if I apply?
A: No. By applying for a Union Plus Credit Card, you authorize Household Bank to obtain a current credit bureau report and to verify the information on your application. Once Household Bank reviews the credit bureau and other information, it will make a decision. Please be advised your union is not involved in credit decisions.
Q: Is the Union Plus Credit Card issued by SEIU?
A: No. The Union Plus Credit Card is issued by Household Bank (Nevada), N.A. and is serviced by its affiliate, Household Credit Services. Union Privilege manages the program. The Union Plus Credit Card is endorsed by the AFL-CIO and affiliated unions that participate in the program.
Q: Why is the Union Plus Credit Card such a great deal for working families?
A: The Union Plus Credit Card is the only credit card good enough to be endorsed by the AFL-CIO and affiliated participating unions. Program benefits were negotiated using the strength of the AFL-CIO's more than 13 million members.
Q: What should I do if my card is lost or stolen?
A: Contact a Customer Care representative immediately at 1-800-651-5116 to report your card's loss or theft. Keep in mind, you are not liable for fraudulent use of your Union Plus Credit Card.
Q: How does the skip payment option work?
A: The Union Plus Credit Card allows you to skip a monthly payment twice in a rolling twelve month period. This advantage can come in handy around the holidays or back-to-school time. Accounts must be in good standing to utilize this benefit. Call Customer Care at 1-800-622-2580 to find out if you are eligible.
Q: Can I use my card to get cash?
A: Certainly. You can get instant cash at more than 911,000 automated teller machines (ATMs) and banks worldwide. For ATM locations, call 1-800-4-CIRRUS. Keep in mind that the cash rate may be higher than your everyday purchase rate. Check your Cardmember Agreement and Disclosure.
Q: What is a variable rate?
A: A variable rate is a rate that can change based on the index. The Union Plus Credit Card, for example, uses the Prime Rate as an index. We use the highest Prime Rate published in The Wall Street Journal on the first or last day of the month. NOTE: The index will never be lower than 8%.
Q: Will the Union Plus Credit Card help me if I am on strike?
A: Actually, the Union Plus Credit Card is the only credit card that offers strike payment protection. If your union is on a union-sanctioned strike or lockout for 30 days or more, you may skip your payment for up to three consecutive months while you're on strike or locked out (as long as your union membership and your account are in good standing). Periodic finance charges continue to accrue, but you do not fall behind and your credit rating is not affected.
If you need to take advantage of Strike Payment Protection, simply call 1-800-622-2580.
