There Can be No Greater Power...

Members March to Capitol to Lobby against Mandatory Overtime

Now more than ever health care professionals need a voice in the decisions that affect our patients and our professions. With a union we have important legal rights and protections that make it possible for us to improve our working conditions and the quality of care that we provide. More importantly, when we speak with a unified voice we know that we will be heard.

Know Your Rights

Being part of a union and having a union contract changes our relationship with our employers in fundamental ways. When health care professionals unite for better working conditions and a voice in patient care we are backed by important legal and contractual rights that all members should know about. Click on the following links to learn about our most important rights.

SEIU Healthcare District 1199WI Union Contracts

Just Cause: Discipline must be fair

Weingarten Rights: You have a right to representation

Duty to Bargain: You have a voice in changes in your workplace

Information: You have a right to know

Grievance Procedure: A fair process for settling disputes

Notice or Risk to Patients

If you believe that you are assigned duties or given orders that jeopardize patient care on your unit, please complete an on-line Notice of Risk to Patient Form so that your voice can be combined with the voices of your co-workers to affect change.

Who do you call when you have problems?

When members of SEIU HEALTHCARE District 1199Wisconsin need to resolve problems on the job and defend their rights, they turn to Union Stewards. Union Stewards are co-workers who represent our Union in the facility and are trained to defend our rights. If you have a question or a problem, contact the Union Steward at your worksite. If you need further help from Union staff, contact your Union Staff Representative.

Want to help build a stronger union?

Our Union has greater power to solve problems at work and improve patient care when members get involved. One of the best ways to get involved is to become a Union Steward, a representative of our Union in your workplace. If you are interested in taking a one day training to learn about our legal and contractual rights, and strategies for solving problems on the job, email us at bonnies@1199wup.org.
