Labor Management Committee

Through the Labor Management Committee professional staff have the opportunity to raise and discuss issues with management from a position of strength. Traditionally, we have discussed a broad range of issues at these meetings including concerns about patient care documented on Notice of Risk to Patient Care forms. Language in our new contract requires extensive discussions of issues like staffing levels and professional advancement.

We have seven representatives on the committee, chosen by the SEIU Congress Board. Meetings occur at least once a month. We encourage everyone who has problems that are not being addressed at the unit level to contact the union office or a member of the SEIU Congress Board so that we can discuss the issue with management.

Topics that must be discussed at Labor Management meetings are:

* All cases of mandatory overtime

* The introduction of new equipment, products and the associated in-services

* Floating

* Adjustments to the amount of time off allowed on units (Paid Time Off Percents)

* Notice of Risk to Patient Care forms

* Staffing levels on all units

* Methods to adjust staffing for acuity and activity

* The amount and use of flexible resources including SOS, the CIU and the float pool

* The development of the professional advancement and recognition program

* Health and safety issues

All problems that relate to our working conditions are open to discussion. To see the full contract language see Article II, Section 8 of the newly ratified contract.
